Appointments

pen_on_diary

All consultations are by appointment which can be made  personally at the surgery or by telephone. We offer a variety of appointment times within the surgery opening hours. For specific times of clinics you will need to contact the surgery.

The majority of our appointments can be pre-booked however If you need to be seen on the same day we now operate a triage system. Your details will be taken by a receptionist and you will be called back by a nurse practitioner or a GP.

The practice has an electronic self arrival system to reduce queuing time. Please use on arrival or ask at reception for details.

All routine health monitoring and check-ups will be undertaken by the practice nurses. Emergency appointments (same day requests) will be screened by the reception staff and justifiable request criteria must be fulfilled.

Your appointment will be allocated to a GP of our choice but some time you might be offered to see other available doctor.

Please remember an appointment is for one person only - where another member of the family needs to be seen or discussed, another appointment should be made.  The doctors also operate a 1 appointment = 1 problem system, should you have multiple problems, please request a double appointment.  This helps to keep waiting times down and makes best use of GP time.

New Appointment System

From the 19th September 2016 we moved to a GP first appointment system. We offer an increase in doctor's telephone consultation appointments to be booked on the day where patients will be offered a GP telephone consultation.

However, should the GP feel that a patient should be seen or issued a prescription then they can arrange this for the patient. Routine and follow up appointments will be available following the discretion of the GP.

Telephone Consultations

You can telephone the surgery during normal surgery hours and speak to one of our receptionists. Your details will be added to the daily computer triage screen along with a contact telephone number and a doctor or nurse practitioner will call you back the same day.

Cancellations

Please inform the surgery as soon as possible if you cannot keep your appointment to enable us to offer it to someone else. If you arrive 10 minutes late for an appointment you may be asked to re-book.

Online Appointments

You can now book appointments on line through our On Line Access, please ask a receptionist for details or click on the link below to register:

Extra GP appointments available for Walsall patients

Patients registered with a Walsall GP can benefit from the Extended GP Access Service.

NHS Walsall Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) has worked with local GPs to create four hubs based at Darlaston Health Centre, Pinfold Health Centre, Broadway Medical Practice and Portland Medical Practice.  The hubs are currently run by a group of local GPs.

Since launching the service in December 2017 and up until May 2018, more than 15,500 patients have accessed the service.

When can I get an out of hours appointment?

Extra GP appointments will be available between:

  • 6.30pm and 9pm weekdays (all four hubs)
  • 10am - 3pm weekends (excluding Darlaston Health Centre & Portland Medical Practice)
  • 11am - 1.30pm Bank Holidays (all four hubs)

However, people will only be seen if they have booked an appointment

How can I book one of these appointments?

A dedicated number has been set up and appointments can be booked by calling 01922 501999 during the following times:

  • 8am - 9pm weekdays
  • 10am - 3pm weekends
  • 11am - 1pm Bank Holidays

NHS 111 will also be able to book an appointment for you if they feel you need to see a GP

Do I need to be registered at one of the four surgeries where the hubs are based to use the service?

No, you can be registered with any GP in Walsall to access the extra appointments.  Please note you will need to travel to one of the three hubs (listed above)

What if I'm not registered with a Walsall GP?

If you are not a registered patient at a Walsall GP, you will not be able to access these out of hours appointments.  More information about these services can be found on Walsall CCG's website:  www.walsallccg.nhs.uk

When should I use the hubs?

The extra appointments are for patients who require a routine or same dat GP appointment, but are unable to attend during normal opening hours.  However, they are not walk-in centres and you will need to book an appointment - these can be booked up to 7 days in advance.  Please note that both of Walsall's urgent care centres and its A&E department will still be open as normal for people to use in serious or life threatening emergencies
